Description

Automatic fan speed control for AC extractor fans

The G.A.S AC1 Fan Controller is a plug-in thermostatic fan speed controller for AC inline and extractor fans. Plug it into the mains, plug your fan into its socket and set two dials: a minimum fan speed and the temperature you want in the room. Below that temperature the fan ticks over at your minimum speed; as the room warms past the set point the AC1 ramps the fan up, reaching full speed 2°C above your setting.

Key Benefits

  • Thermostatic or manual – unplug the sensor and it runs as a simple speed controller at your minimum setting.
  • Up to 5 A of AC fan load – one fan or more.
  • Plug and play – UK socket on the front, temperature sensor on a 2 m cable.
  • Accurate sensing – digital sensor reads to ±0.5°C across a 20-30°C range.
  • Overload protection – if the controller overheats it switches the fan to full speed to protect your equipment, then returns to normal.
  • Temperature LED shows when the room is above the set point.

Heat spikes and noisy fans

An extractor fan running flat out all day is loud, wears faster and can pull a grow tent too cold at night, while a fan set low can't cope when the lights heat the room. Matching extraction to temperature keeps the climate steady, holds airflow and humidity in check, and keeps the fan quiet whenever it can be.

How to Use

  • Plug the AC1 into the mains and your AC fan into the AC1's socket.
  • Place the sensor in the middle of the room or tent.
  • Set the temperature you want; the fan reaches full speed 2°C above it.
  • Set the minimum speed – if the fan motor hums, turn the minimum up until it stops.
  • Manual mode: unplug the sensor and use the minimum-speed dial as a speed control.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with EC fans?

No – the AC1 is for AC fans only. EC fans need an EC controller such as the Global Air EC1.

Can it run more than one fan?

Yes, as long as the total load of the fans stays within 5 amps.

Why does my fan hum at low speed?

The minimum speed is set too low for that motor. Turn the minimum-speed dial up until the hum stops, which also saves wear on the fan.

What happens if I unplug the temperature sensor?

The AC1 becomes a manual speed controller and runs the fan continuously at the minimum speed you have set.
