The mat lifts the root zone 10–15°C above room temperature, the vented dome holds humidity around young plants, and the dry plugs arrive mould-free and ready to hydrate – so seeds and cuttings get off to a fast, even start on a bench, shelf or windowsill.

Cold, Wet Roots and Transplant Shock

Seeds and cuttings fail most often for the same few reasons: a cold root zone, compost that stays too wet or dries out, and roots that circle and stall in the module. This kit answers each one – warmth from below, a free-draining plug with a small reserve underneath, and air-pruning cells – which is why rooting is quicker and young plants suffer less transplant shock when they move on.

How to Use

• Set up the heat: lay the insulated mat on the surface, the heat mat on top, and centre the propagator base on the heat mat
• Hydrate the plugs: stand the cell tray in the base and water with a weak propagation feed (Root!T recommend their First Feed at 5ml per litre); leave a few hours, ideally overnight, in a shallow pool so the plugs take up their full capacity
• Seeds: sow into the wide top of the dibble and cover with a small piece torn from the edge of the plug; keep at 18–22°C, moist but not wet, and in the dark until shoots appear, then give them light
• Cuttings: fill the dibble with rooting gel, push the cutting into the narrow part until the lowest node sits at the top of the plug, keep humid at about 22°C with good light – roots usually show in the second week
• Manage the mat: switch it on when the propagator falls below 18°C and off at the top of the 18–22°C range, or plug it into a heat mat thermostat to do this automatically
