Description

Hold Your Propagator at the Temperature You Set

The Root!T Heat Mat Thermostat is a plug-through digital controller that switches a heat mat on and off to keep a propagator at a chosen minimum temperature. Its probe reads the air under the lid or the temperature inside the growing medium, the display shows the live reading in °C or °F, and the output socket powers any heat mat – or other heating device – up to 1000W. Set it once and seedlings and cuttings get steady warmth through cold nights without the tray cooking on a sunny afternoon.

Key Benefits

  • 10–30°C setting range – covers every propagation target from cool-season seeds to warm cuttings
  • Up to 1000W / 4.3A – runs one heat mat or several, as long as the total stays within the load
  • Air or root-zone sensing – hang the probe on its rubber sucker for air temperature, or push it into the medium for substrate temperature
  • Clear digital display with HEATING and POWER indicator lights, switchable between °C and °F
  • Simple three-button setting – SET, UP and DOWN
  • 1-year manufacturer’s warranty

Overheating and Cold Nights in the Propagator

A heat mat on its own is either on or off. Left on, a lidded propagator can climb well past 25°C on a mild day, drying plugs and stressing tender roots; switched off, the root zone drops on a cold night and germination and rooting stall. A thermostat with its probe in the tray closes that gap: the mat runs only when the temperature falls below your target, so growth stays steady and the mat costs less to run. Root!T recommend 18–22°C for seeds and about 22°C for cuttings.

How to Use

  • Place the probe in the propagator – hang it with the rubber sucker for air temperature, or push it into the growing medium for root-zone temperature
  • Keep the thermostat body outside the propagator, where it and its output socket stay dry
  • Plug the heat mat into the thermostat’s output socket, then plug the thermostat into the mains – the POWER light comes on
  • Set the target: press SET to view it; hold SET for 3 seconds until the display flashes, adjust with UP/DOWN, then press SET again
  • Read the lights: HEATING lit means the reading is below target and the mat is on; unlit means the mat is off

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with heat mats from other brands?

Yes. It switches whatever is plugged into its socket, so any heat mat – or a small heater or heated propagator – works as long as the total load is no more than 1000W (4.3A).

Can I run more than one heat mat from it?

Yes, through a multi-way adaptor in the output socket, provided the combined wattage stays under 1000W. Put the probe in the tray that matters most, as all the mats switch together.

Should the probe measure air or compost temperature?

Either. Hung on its sucker it controls the air under the lid; pushed into a plug or cube it controls the root zone, which is the better choice for cuttings and for seeds that need bottom heat.

Can it control cooling as well?

No. It is a heating thermostat: it switches the socket on when the reading is below your target and off when it is above.
