Description
Gravity-Fed Watering for Four Pots, No Pump and No Power
The Spider Farmer Self-Watering System keeps four potted plants watered from one 50 L folding reservoir. Water runs by gravity through a shut-off valve box to four self-watering bases, and wick lines draw it up into the fabric pots as the growing medium dries, so each plant takes what it needs. There is no pump, no timer and no electricity: a quiet way to keep soil or coco evenly moist in a tent or greenhouse while you are away.
What's Included
- Self-watering bases - four, each 39.6 cm across with an elevated drain plate
- Folding reservoir - one 50 L bucket with a flow tap
- Fabric grow bags - five 5-gallon bags
- Shut-off valve box - with 4 m of silicone tube and four T-connectors
- Wick lines - eight, 0.5 m each, plus user manual
Key Benefits
- Zero power - gravity does the work, so there is nothing to run, programme or hear
- Even moisture - wicks feed the root zone from below, avoiding the swing between waterlogged and bone-dry pots
- Fits your pots - three wick positions on each base suit 1-2, 3 and 5-7 gallon fabric pots
- Cleaner root zone - the raised drain plate keeps the pot out of standing water, and the near-solid lid limits light, algae and gnats
Why Do Potted Plants Swing Between Too Wet and Too Dry?
Hand watering floods a pot, then leaves it to dry, so roots sit wet and short of air one day and dry the next. That stresses plants, slows root development and makes nutrient uptake uneven. Bottom-wicking keeps the medium at a steady moisture level, so roots spread through the whole pot.
How to Use
- Lay everything flat - bases, valve box and tubes level on the floor, joined with the tube and T-connectors; fit the wicks in the positions for your pot size.
- Start with established plants - wicking works best once roots are well developed, so hand-water seedlings until they root down.
- Keep the reservoir filled - at about 4 L per plant per week, 50 L lasts four plants around two to three weeks.
- Clean the bases every two weeks to stop roots or nutrient salts clogging the wicks and valve.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will the reservoir last?
Spider Farmer works on about 4 L per plant per week, so the 50 L reservoir keeps four plants going for around two to three weeks. Large plants in warm conditions drink more, so check it weekly.
Do I need electricity or a pump?
No. The system runs entirely on gravity: keep the reservoir filled and the bases, valve box and tubes level on the floor, and water flows to each base as the wicks draw it up.
Can I use it for seedlings?
It works best once roots are established. Seedlings have shallow roots that may not reach the moist zone, so water them by hand until they root into the pot, then let the system take over.
Will it fit my fabric pots?
Yes, up to 7 gallons. Each base has three wick positions for 1-2, 3 and 5-7 gallon pots, and five 5-gallon bags are included.
