Description
Raise pH Steadily and Hold It Where Your Feed Works Best
Veg+Bloom BASIK pH Up+ from Hydroponic Research is a carbonate-buffered pH up for nutrient solutions and source water that read too acidic. Instead of a sharp alkaline hit that overshoots and then drifts back, its carbonate buffer lifts pH steadily and helps hold the reading, so it is easier to land on target and stay there between checks. It is the partner to PHLO pH Down+, letting Veg+Bloom growers correct in either direction with the same clean, chlorine-free approach, and it suits hydroponics, coco and soil. BASIK is a dry, concentrated product made in California, so small additions go a long way in a mixed reservoir.
Key Benefits
- Carbonate buffer – raises pH and helps hold it rather than spiking and drifting back.
- Clean buffer, chlorine-free – adjusts pH without adding chlorine to the system.
- Water treatment – also corrects acidic source water, such as RO or very soft tap water.
- Pairs with PHLO pH Down+ – one range to correct pH up or down.
- Concentrated – small additions move a whole reservoir.
- Hydro, coco and soil – works with any base nutrient programme.
Is Low pH Locking Out Your Nutrients?
When a feed runs too acidic, calcium, magnesium and molybdenum become harder for roots to take up, while iron and manganese can become over-available. Plants show deficiency or toxicity signs although the feed is complete, root development suffers and growth slows. Reverse osmosis water, very soft tap water and some acidic base nutrients all pull pH down, and acidic run-off from coco tells the same story. Bringing the solution back into range restores nutrient uptake without changing the feed itself.
How to Use
- Mix first: add base nutrients and any additives to the water, stir well, then measure pH with a calibrated meter.
- Add a little at a time: stir in a small amount of BASIK, wait a few minutes and re-test – it is concentrated, so work in small steps.
- Typical targets: pH 5.8–6.2 for hydro and coco, pH 6.0–6.5 for soil.
- Overshot? Bring the reading back with PHLO pH Down+ and re-test.
- Re-check daily in recirculating systems and correct as the reservoir drifts.
- Storage and safety: keep sealed, cool and dry, away from children; wear gloves and eye protection.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is BASIK different from a standard liquid pH up?
Most liquid pH ups are strong alkalis that move pH fast and can overshoot. BASIK is built on a carbonate buffer, so it raises pH more steadily and helps hold the reading.
Do I add it before or after the nutrients?
After. Mix the base nutrients and additives first, because they change the pH themselves, then measure and correct with BASIK.
Can I use it with other nutrient brands?
Yes. It adjusts the pH of the water or nutrient solution, so it works alongside any base feed in hydro, coco or soil.
What if I add too much?
Bring the pH back down with PHLO pH Down+, stir and re-test. Working in small additions avoids it.
