Description
Bring sterile potting soil to life from the first day
BioTabs Startrex is an organic soil conditioner and gentle fertiliser (NPK 3-1-2) with a high content of beneficial soil bacteria. Made from a rich humus of partially decomposed pressed grapes, with fulvic acid and silicon, it is mixed into potting soil or coco before planting to put back the soil life that sterilisation removes, so roots establish faster and organic fertilisers are broken down and taken up sooner. It suits flowers, vegetables, herbs, trees and shrubs, indoors and out.
Key Benefits
- Living soil from day one — a large population of beneficial bacteria starts improving the medium as soon as it is mixed in.
- Faster rooting — plants root quickly into an active medium for a strong, even start.
- More from organic feeds — soil bacteria convert organic fertilisers into nutrients the plant can absorb.
- Fulvic acid, humus and silicon — fulvic acid carries nutrients into plant cells, humus improves the soil and silicon strengthens plant tissue.
- Supports mycorrhizal fungi — promotes the development of mycorrhiza alongside the beneficial bacteria.
- Approved for organic growing — an Ecocert-approved input, suitable for organic farming under EU rules.
Why Is Fresh Potting Soil Slow to Get Going?
Most bagged potting soils are sterilised to kill weed seeds and disease, but the process also wipes out the beneficial bacteria and fungi that make nutrients available. Left alone, it takes a long time for that soil life to re-establish, and in the meantime organic feeds sit unused and young plants are slow to root and establish. Startrex reintroduces a dense population of soil bacteria at planting, so the medium is biologically active from the start and root development gets going straight away.
How to Use
- Containers: mix 25 g (about two tablespoons) per 5 L of potting soil or coco — 50 g per 10 L — before planting.
- Outdoor beds: work 250 g per m² into the soil.
- Re-using soil or coco: remove the top 5 cm, the old stem and the large roots, then mix 25 g of Startrex into each litre of soil or coco and spread it as the new top layer.
- Part of a system: Startrex is the soil-life component of the BioTabs organic growing method, alongside BioTabs tablets, Mycotrex and Bactrex.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Startrex a fertiliser or a soil improver?
Both. It is a certified organic fertiliser at NPK 3-1-2, but its main job is to inoculate the medium with beneficial bacteria and humus — pair it with a main feed such as BioTabs tablets.
Can I use Startrex in coco?
Yes. Mix it through coco at the same 25 g per 5 L rate as potting soil.
Can I use it in hydroponics?
No. Startrex is a solid soil conditioner for soil and coco, not for nutrient reservoirs or hydroponic systems.
