Description
A complete 1000W double-ended HPS fixture that boosts to 1,200W
The Dimlux Expert Series MKII 1000W is a complete 400V double-ended (DE) HPS grow light: Dimlux's MKII digital ballast and the Ultra Optics Hybrid 98 reflector built into one low-profile fixture. Dimlux rate the system at about 2,107 µmol/s at 1000W with a Philips GreenPower Xtra 1000W DE lamp, and the boost setting drives the lamp up to 20% harder, to 1,200W and about 2,528 µmol/s, for the largest footprints. A single button steps the output from 500W to 1,200W in 100W stages, and the fixture can be run on its own or from a Dimlux Maxi Controller with stepless dimming and soft start.
Key Benefits
- Boost to 1,200W - up to 20% more output, about 2,528 µmol/s, for larger areas.
- MKII digital ballast - 97% efficient and around 30% smaller and lighter than the original Expert Series, in a closed housing.
- Ultra Optics Hybrid 98 reflector - 98% reflectivity, single-bounce design that sends light to the canopy rather than back through the lamp.
- Smart lamp driving - the ballast adjusts as the lamp ages to keep its output steady for longer.
- Full control - 4-character status display, Maxi Controller compatible, plus a Smartport for a plant temperature camera or humidity sensor.
- 50mm extraction port - connect a duct to pull lamp heat out of the room.
Why Does Lamp Output Fall Away, and How Does the MKII Stop It?
An HPS lamp loses output steadily as it ages, so a room that was evenly lit at the start of the year ends it with weaker light, slower growth and patchy coverage at the edges. The MKII ballast compensates by pushing the right voltage and current to the lamp as it wears, holding its output at the optimum for longer, and the open single-bounce reflector keeps reflected light off the arc tube, which also helps lamp life. Adjustable side reflectors improve overlap between fixtures and cut light lost to the walls, giving a more even canopy and better use of every watt.
How to Use
- Hang: suspend the fixture level above the canopy and raise it as the plants grow; set the side reflectors for overlap with neighbouring lights.
- Set the output: press the power button to step between 500W and 1,200W, or connect a Dimlux Maxi Controller for central control, sunrise and sunset and stepless dimming.
- Extract heat: fit 50mm ducting to the reflector port if the room runs warm.
- Lamp: the fixture takes a 400V double-ended 1000W HPS lamp; the Dimlux Xtreme HPS 1000W/1250W DE is the matching lamp from the same maker.

Frequently Asked Questions
How big an area does it cover?
Dimlux rate it at 1.4 to 3.3m² at 1,000W and 1.65 to 4m² when boosted to 1,200W, depending on the intensity you want at the canopy.
Do I need a Maxi Controller?
No. The output is set with the button on the ballast. The Maxi Controller adds central control of many fixtures, stepless dimming, sunrise and sunset, and zero inrush current at switch-on.
How is it different from the MKII 600W/750W?
It is the larger fixture in the same MKII series, running a 1000W double-ended lamp with a boost to 1,200W, where the 600W/750W model runs a 600W lamp boosted to 750W.
