Description
Let Your Maxi Controller Dim the Lights Before the Room Overheats
The Dimlux Temperature Sensor is the ambient air probe for the Dimlux Maxi Controller. Once connected, the controller reads room temperature and dims your Dimlux lighting whenever your set point is exceeded. If the temperature keeps rising despite the dimming, it switches half of the dimmed lights off in a chequerboard pattern; if even that does not hold it, all lights go off for at least 20 minutes. Choose a 5m or 10m cable to reach canopy height from wherever the controller is mounted.
Key Benefits
- Automatic heat protection – lighting output follows room temperature instead of running flat out on a hot day
- Three-stage response: dim first, then half the lights off, then all off for at least 20 minutes
- Completes VPD readings – with the Dimlux humidity sensor and plant temperature camera also connected, the Maxi Controller calculates and displays vapour pressure deficit
- Plug-in fit – connects straight to the Maxi Controller with no wiring
- 5m or 10m lead so the probe sits where the plants are, not where the controller is
Heat Stress When the Room Runs Hot
On a warm day, or when extraction cannot keep up, lights at full power push the air past the point plants can use. Stomata close, nutrient uptake and photosynthesis slow, and growth stalls while you pay for light the crop cannot use. Dimlux's answer is to trade a little light for a balanced climate: dimming against a measured air temperature keeps the room inside its window automatically, protecting the crop without cutting the photoperiod short or waiting for someone to notice.
How to Use
- Connect the sensor to the Dimlux Maxi Controller
- Place the probe at canopy height, shaded from direct light and clear of heaters and fan exhausts, so it reads the air the plants are growing in
- Set your maximum temperature on the controller – dimming and switch-off then run automatically
- Add the humidity sensor and plant temperature camera if you want VPD shown on the controller
Technical Specifications
- Type: Ambient air temperature sensor
- For: Dimlux Maxi Controller
- Cable length: 5m or 10m
- Controller response: dims lights above the set point; switches half the dimmed lights off in a chequerboard pattern if the temperature still rises; switches all lights off for at least 20 minutes as a last resort
- VPD: calculated by the Maxi Controller when used with the Dimlux humidity sensor and plant temperature camera
- Connection: plug-in lead to the Maxi Controller
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work without a Maxi Controller?
No. It has no display or switching of its own – it gives the Dimlux Maxi Controller a temperature reading to act on.
Do I need it to see VPD on the controller?
Yes. The Maxi Controller needs three readings for VPD: this ambient temperature sensor, the Dimlux humidity sensor and the plant temperature camera.
Should I choose the 5m or the 10m cable?
Measure the run from the controller to canopy height in the middle of the room, following the walls and supports the lead will be fixed along. If the 5m would be tight, take the 10m.
