Description
Sun-Like CDM Light, Ready to Hang in One Kit
The LUMii Solar 315W CDM Kit brings together everything needed to run one 315W ceramic discharge metal halide grow light (CDM, also sold as CMH): the LUMii Solar 315W CDM ballast, a LUMii Solar 315W reflector and a lamp. Ceramic discharge lamps give a spectrum much closer to natural daylight than HPS or MH, with a high share of usable plant light (PAR) for the power drawn. Pick a Closed or Wide Angle reflector and one of four lamps: LUMii's GRO 4200K or PRO 3200K, or Philips' GreenPower Elite Agro 930 or MASTERColour 942.
What's Included
- LUMii Solar 315W CDM ballast
- LUMii Solar 315W reflector – Closed or Wide Angle version, as selected
- 315W CDM lamp – LUMii Solar GRO 4200K, LUMii Solar PRO 3200K, Philips MASTER GreenPower Elite Agro 930 or Philips MASTERColour CDM-TP MW 942, as selected
Key Benefits
- Daylight-like full spectrum – a wider range of usable wavelengths than HPS, with far more natural colour.
- 315 W of efficient light – the Philips Agro 930 lamp is rated at about 1.9 µmol/J, and one kit lights around 1 m × 1 m as the main light.
- Soft-start ballast – the LUMii Solar ballast brings the lamp up gently and has short-circuit protection.
- Two reflector patterns – hammered-aluminium Closed for focus, Wide Angle for spread.
- Four lamp choices – bluer 4200K lamps for vegetative growth, warmer 3000–3200K lamps for flowering and fruiting.
- Standalone or supplementary – the only light in a small grow tent, or extra spectrum beside HPS.
Stretch and Heat From the Wrong Light
HPS lamps put most of their output into yellow and orange light. On their own they can leave plants stretching, with long gaps between nodes and thin stems, while their heat makes temperature and humidity hard to hold in a small grow tent. A 315W ceramic discharge lamp spreads its output across a fuller spectrum, including the blue light that keeps growth compact, at about half the wattage of a 600W HPS. Plants tend to keep tighter internodes and sturdier stems from vegetative growth into flowering, and the lower heat load makes airflow and climate control easier.
How to Use
- Assemble and hang: fit the ballast and reflector together as LUMii's instructions show and hang the fixture level above the canopy, ideally on rope ratchets.
- Fit the lamp: hold it by the base only – oil from bare fingers on the glass can create hot spots.
- Time it: power the ballast through a suitable timer or contactor timer and set your light cycle.
- First run: leave a new lamp on for at least 15 minutes; let a hot lamp cool before restarting it.
- Set the height: start high and lower gradually, watching the top leaves for heat stress or bleaching.
- Maintain: LUMii recommend a new reflector about every 6 months to keep reflectivity high.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose the Closed or the Wide Angle reflector?
The Closed reflector concentrates the light onto a tighter, more intense area under the lamp, which suits a 1 m × 1 m tent. The Wide Angle reflector spreads the same 315 W further, to reach more of a larger tent or grow room or to blend with other lights.
Which lamp is best for vegetative growth and which for flowering?
The LUMii GRO 4200K and Philips 942 are bluer daylight lamps that keep vegetative growth compact and suit young plants. The LUMii PRO 3200K and Philips Agro 930 have more red for flowering and fruiting; LUMii describe the PRO as full-spectrum enough to run from start to finish if you want one lamp all the way through.
Can I fit a different 315W CDM lamp later?
Yes. LUMii describe the Solar 315 as suitable for 315W CDM lamps, and HydroGarden supply it with both LUMii and Philips lamps, so a replacement from either range fits. With another brand, check the lamp is a single-ended 315W CDM type with the same base.
Can I add it to a grow room that already runs HPS?
Yes. LUMii designed the Solar lamps to work as the only light source or as supplementary lighting alongside HID, so a kit can add a fuller spectrum to an HPS room.
Do I need a contactor to run it?
Not for a single 315W light – a heavy-duty plug-in timer will switch it. Once you run several lights on one schedule, a contactor timer protects the timer from their combined start-up surge.
