Best Environment Controllers for Grow Rooms: 2026 Buying Guide
Share
Most tents only need a fan speed controller with a temperature probe, such as the Mission Control LogicFan. Step up to a climate controller when humidity is the problem too. Choose a smart hub only if you will buy that brand’s fans, lights and climate kit, because it runs nothing else.

How to choose
- Name the problem first. Too hot: a fan speed controller. Damp at lights-off: a climate controller. Cold at night: a day and night heater controller.
- Check your fan type. Plug-in speed controllers suit AC fans. EC fans need an EC controller that lists them.
- Choose a hub only if you want the system. Smart hubs run their own brand’s devices and nothing else.
- Add up the load. Total the amps or watts of everything plugged in and stay inside the rating.
- Put the sensor at canopy height, out of direct light and away from the fan’s airflow.

Quick answers
Do I need a fan controller for my grow tent?
Almost always. A fan running flat out is loud, wastes electricity and can leave the tent too cold and dry at lights-off. A controller with a temperature probe slows it when the tent is cool and speeds it up as it warms.
What is the difference between a fan controller and a climate controller?
A fan controller adjusts one fan, usually by temperature. A climate controller reads temperature and humidity together and runs intake and extraction, often with sockets for a heater or humidifier and separate day and night settings.
Can I use any fan controller with an EC fan?
No. EC fans take a low-voltage control signal, so a plug-in AC speed controller is the wrong tool. Use the EC controller made for your fan, or one that lists it, such as the G.A.S Enviro Controller V2.
What is VPD mode on a controller?
VPD, or vapour pressure deficit, combines temperature and humidity into one number for how strongly plants draw water. In VPD mode, a controller adjusts fans or humidifiers to hold that number.
