Best LED Grow Lights for Every Tent Size: 2026 Buying Guide
Share
Match the light to your tent’s floor, not to the biggest number on the box. As a guide: about 100W of efficient LED for a 60cm tent, 200W for 80cm, 300W for 1m, 450–500W for 1.2m and 720W for 1.5m. Every pick below dims, so the same light handles young plants too.

PPF is how much light a fixture puts out. For a full canopy, aim for about 800–1,000 µmol/s per square metre of floor.

| 60cm | 100 | 277 | £99.49 | |

How to choose
- Measure the floor. Work in square metres: a 120 × 60cm tent is 0.72 m², closer to an 80cm tent than a 1.2m one.
- Compare PPF and µmol/J, not watts. PPF is how much light you get; µmol/J is how much of each watt becomes light.
- Check it fits. The Elite 300W is 65cm square and the Gorilla 720W is 105 × 106cm, so a light for a bigger tent will not fit a smaller one.
- Make sure it dims. Built-in steps suit most growers; a 0–10V port matters if you want a controller to run it.
- Plan for the heat. Every watt ends up as heat, so a more efficient light makes summer easier.

Quick answers
How many watts of LED do I need per square metre?
PPF is a better guide than watts: about 800–1,000 µmol/s per square metre for a full canopy. With a good modern LED at around 2.7 µmol/J, that works out at roughly 300–370W per square metre.
Can I put a bigger LED in a smaller tent?
Only within reason, and only if it dims. A slightly larger light run at 50–75% gives you headroom and runs cooler. A light built for a much bigger tent will not fit, will throw light onto the walls and will put in more heat than the tent can shed.
Do I need a PAR meter to set up a new LED?
No. Use the maker’s hanging height, the dimmer and a daily look at the plants: stretching means too little light, bleached tops mean too much. A PAR meter is worth having if you want to check for dark corners or run several tents.
Is this the same for vegetables and herbs?
Yes. The light a tent needs depends on its floor area and how much light the crop wants at its busiest stage. Leafy salad and herbs are happy at the lower end; fruiting crops such as tomatoes and peppers use the top of it.
