Best Carbon Filters for Grow Tents: 2026 Buying Guide
Share
Buy a carbon filter with the same flange size as your fan, rated for at least the airflow you run, with as deep a carbon bed as your budget allows. For most tents that is the Phresh Professional: deep, high-grade carbon that lasts around two years. On a tight budget, the Rhino Hobby does the job for 9–12 months.
The best carbon filters
Phresh Professional
From £48.95 6 inch £68.95
The filter most tents should have: deep, high-grade carbon at a fair price, and it lasts.
- 46mm carbon bed
- RC-48 Australian carbon
- 4 to 12 inch
- Around 2 years’ life
- Carbon with a 1050 mg/g iodine number, a measure of how much odour it can hold
- Aluminium ends, about half the weight of comparable filters, so it hangs easily from tent poles
Know before you buyThe standard 6 inch is rated at 595 m³/h. If you run a strong 6 inch fan flat out, take the 600mm body (£92.99, 935 m³/h).

How to choose
- Match the flange to the fan. A 6 inch fan takes a 6 inch filter: no reducers, no leaks.
- Check the rating. The filter should be rated for at least the airflow your fan really delivers.
- Pick a bed depth for how long you want it to last. 30mm suits a first year; 46–60mm costs more up front and usually less per year.
- Check your headroom. The RAM 4 inch is 200mm long; the CarboAir 60 is 660mm.
- Fit it at the top of the tent, before the fan, so all the air leaving the tent passes through the carbon.

Quick answers
How long does a carbon filter last?
From about 9–12 months for a 30mm bed to around two years for a 46mm bed. Long running hours, damp air and dust all shorten it; a clean pre-filter helps it last.
Can a carbon filter be bigger than the fan?
Yes. A filter rated above your fan’s airflow offers less resistance and lasts longer. Keep the flange the same size as the fan, or use a proper tapered reducer.
Does the filter go before or after the fan?
Before. Hang the filter inside the tent at the top, with the fan after it pulling air through, so every bit of air leaving the tent passes through the carbon.
Can I wash or recharge a carbon filter?
Wash or replace the fabric pre-filter, never the carbon. Activated carbon cannot practically be recharged at home, so a full filter needs replacing.
